What are some songs that mention fire?

Some by Sarah McLachlan are Into the Fire, World on Fire
and the song I quote below in my sig, Illusions of Bliss.

Another is Fire written by Bruce Springsteen:

"Romeo and Juliet, Samson and Delilah.
Baby, you can bet, a love they couldn't deny.
My words say split, but my words they lie.
'Cause when we kiss, ooh, fire."

Julia Ecklar's "Daddy's Little Girl" is an adaptation-into-song
of Stephen King's novel _Firestarter_. I know a number of
people who think that the song version is better.

Bruce Springsteen's Dancing in the Dark also mentions fire
"you can't start a fire without a spark"

Some other fire songs are:

Sinead O'Connor Fire on Babylon

Jimi Hendrix Let me Stand Next to Your Fire

The Doors Light my Fire

Johnny Cash singing RING OF FIRE would surely qualify, then.

If you would prefer sings about actual fires, my two favorites are:

BALLAD OF YARMOUTH CASTLE by Gordon Lightfoot is about a ship burning
and sinking. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Yarmouth_Castle.

JIM ROOT'S RIDE by Pranklyn W. Lee was about a fire out on the plains
in Minnesota). I first heard this as a song almost 30 years ago, but
what came up in a Google Search (in Google Books, as it happens) was
just the words. So maybe it was written as a poem and someone added a
tune later.

Someone has already mentioned Julia Ecklar's FIRESTARTER, a great
song. Let's see, the Fire (Song) disambiguation page on Google lists
the following:
==========================================================================
Songs:

"Fire" (2NE1 song)
"Fire" (Arthur Brown song)
"Fire" (Bruce Springsteen song), notably covered by The Pointer
Sisters
"Fire" (Emerson, Lake and Palmer song)

Chili Peppers

Not Happy
"Fires", a song by Band of Skulls from Baby Darling Dollface Honey
"FIRE", a theme song from the Dracul Arc of the Sailor Moon Musicals
===============================================================================

So, a few that don't have just that single word as a title -

FIRE AND RAIN by James Taylor
FIRE AND ICE by Pat Benetar
FIRE AND WATER by Wilson Picket
FIRE, BABY, I'M ON FIRE by Andy Kim
FIRE IN THE MORNING by Melissa Manchester
FIRE LAKE by Bob Seger
FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN by Marshal Tucker Band

hmmm...., let's see

SMOKE ON THE WATER by Deep Purple
WHO BY FIRE by Leonard Cohen
SMOKE FROM A DISTANT FIRE by Sanford/Townsend Band
THE GREAT CHICAGO FIRE http://inspectormuffin.com/songdetail.asp?id=2
ON FIRE by Switchfoot
LIGHT MY FIRE by Jose Feliciano (or The Doors, a year earlier)

Is that enough? There are many more. Do they have to be big? There
are songs that mention smaller fires (like oil lamps, candles, or even
just smoking).

Christmas has songs about Yule Logs/Fires. There's THE CHRISTMAS SONG
("Chestnuts roasting on an open fire"). There's LET IT SNOW ("Oh the
weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful").
There's one song strictly about the different types of wood for making
fires, and describing how they burn. That was LOGS TO BURN by Golden
Bough.

There are songs about coal mining fires, songs about fires in
buildings, songs about the coal or wood fires in steam locomotives (or
steamships), songs about campfires, cooking fires, rocket ships (FIRE
IN THE SKY and many, many more), fire as symbolism for being in love,
fire as symbolism for hating something....

For that matter, "Black Day in July" must surely reference fire, if only
by implication. The Detroit riot, "Motor City's burning and the flames
are running wild", so it's more than implication.

Illusions of Bliss has the lines

"Here I go again...back into the flame
Live a moth so willing to be burned"

and

" 'Cause it's you who released me
It's you who gave me fire"

but also her song Loving You is Easy has the lines

"Cause I'm alive and I'm on fire.
Shot like a starburst into the sky.
Oh the fury of desire you burn so bright, you electrify.
You light me up; you take me higher."

What are some songs that mention fire?
Dave,
Maine folk guitarist and songwriter David Mallett has a song titled
"Fire."
It's about when lightning hit the barn and caught the house on fire at
his grandfather's
place when he was a child.
Mallett has a website...you may be interested in checking that out as
time or inclination
allows.
Good luck,

My Brither Bill

My brither Bill's a fireman bold,
He pits oot fires.
He's only twenty-four years old,
He pits oot fires.
He went to fight a fire one night
When somebody shouted, "Dynamite!"
Wherever he is, he'll be all right.
He pits oot fires.

Glasgow street song, per Ewan MacColl

(Please note, I've Replied to all groups this had been sent to but of
them I only read rec.music.folk.)
