Hello,

I'm a music writer based in London UK. My wife and I are considering
moving to Montreal. Could any of you tell me which Canadian music mags
there are? I'd like to submit some samples of my work.

I know about Exclaim!, Chart Attack and Access...

Thanks for your time!

Hey Simon,

You've got the biggies. Each bigger city has an alt weekly worth
checking out, like Toronto's NOW magazine and Eye weekly.

Chart pays - but only for features and it's only a token amount (I got
$20 for an 800 feature). Canada is not the place you'll make the big
career in music journalism.

But, it's the only place in the world where you can get a PhD in music
criticsm - at McMaster in Hamilton.

Best of luck!

Clearly Canadian

Subject: Toronto: The Spill Magazine is looking for music writers

The Spill Magazine, one of Toronto's longest running magazines
dedicated to new music, is looking for new writers. This is a casual,
unpaid position perfect for diehard music fans and prospective writers
looking to build their resumes. Plenty of autonomy and definitely, we
welcome your input.

The Spill Magazine is one of Toronto's longest running magazines
dedicated to new music. Since the mid-1990's, The Spill has been
featuring the hottest names in indie rock, punk, hip-hop and countless
other styles. We're always looking for new contributors and music
lovers- please do get in touch.

If you are interested, please e-mail content editor Cameron Gordon at
***@yahoo.com. Please include a writing sample (published or
otherwise) with your e-mail.

Fanks a-lott!

Hate to be biased, but let's face it, Toronto is the centre of the music
business in Canada. Majority of the major labels are located here, as well
as the interesting minors. So you may want to look into living here instead?

Having said that, Montreal is a pretty happening place in terms of people,
sites, clubs, etc. - much more easy going than "up-tight" Toronto.

Cheers,
SJ
